Post 16 & L3 Maths lead and co-ordination group
Led by Terry Daswon of MEI (Mathematics in Education & Industry) the SYMH's coordination group will continue to work closely with two of the maths hubs' national partners to address elements of KS5 development. The Further Maths Support Programme and the Core Maths Support Programme offer resources and support to schools and colleges in this period of change and development for post 16 Mathematics and the co-ordination group will seek to enable SYMH to supplement this with further support, advice and opportunities for schools.
A fundamental aim is to enable and encourage the participation of students post 16 in the study of mathematics that is most appropriate for them.
Many students see GCSE Maths as the end of their Maths study despite the government and educationalists agreeing upon the importance of Maths in preparing young people for further study and training. The maths hubs nationally have been looking to identify strategies that can be employed to encourage students to continue with appropriate study of maths.
With Core Maths programmes being accredited the Core Maths Support Programme is fundamental to supporting schools through information & resource development.
Local schools have been identified as "early adopters" (King Ecgberts & Tapton, Sheffield) as well as "early developers" (King Edward VII, Sheffield & Wales, Rotherham). We hope other schools will be able to learn from their experiences.
A' Level & Further Maths
The Maths Hub initiative is based on the successful Further Maths Support Programme and the FMSP continues to support schools across the country. Schools can register with the FMSP for free and you will have access to advice, support and high quality resources & CPD programmes.
Networking with other schools is a key feature of this activity.
