  • Secondary Non-Specialist Teachers – Developing Specialist Knowledge in Mathematics

    This programme supports non-specialist teachers to develop subject knowledge and confidence in teaching secondary mathematics.

     

    What will you learn?

    • Develop an understanding of pedagogic approaches to teaching maths, aligned with the NCETM’s Essence of Mathematics Teaching for Mastery
    • Develop subject and curriculum knowledge of secondary maths
    • Reflect on how the Teachers’ Standards apply to the teaching of maths

    Programme Structure

    This programme includes:

    • The equivalent of six full days exploring each of the NCETM’s KS3 core concepts

    Who should attend

    A non-specialist teacher of mathematics is defined as a teacher who is currently teaching some mathematics, or has a commitment from a headteacher or executive head to teach mathematics within the next year, and has not undertaken initial teacher training (ITT) in mathematics

    If there is sufficient space in the cohort, other teachers of maths who do not meet this definition but would benefit from the programme may also participate
