Early Career Teachers – developing a specialist knowledge in mathematics

 

This programme supports early career teachers to develop subject knowledge, strengthen practice, and build confidence in teaching mathematics.

 

What will you learn?

Practice Development:

  • Observe learning to understand how children approach maths and adjust practice accordingly
  • Consider task and lesson design, adapting to pupils’ needs
  • Collaborate with colleagues and mentors to share professional learning

Professional Learning:

  • Enhance maths subject knowledge, focusing on key concepts, representations and language
  • Identify common misconceptions and strategies to address them
  • Develop expertise in maths-specific pedagogies aligned to teaching for mastery and ITTECF

Programme Structure

This programme includes:

  • Four days of sessions over one academic year
  • Collaborative work on maths tasks during sessions
  • Structured conversations about maths, pedagogy and misconceptions
  • Between sessions, participants engage with an online community, complete school-based tasks, and share reflections with peers and mentors

Teachers in their second or third year of teaching
