Post-16 GCSE/FSQ Mastery Specialist Programme

This programme supports practitioners in Further Education to develop teaching for mastery approaches in GCSE Maths resit and Functional Skills, leading to designation as a Post-16 Mastery Specialist.

 

What will you learn?

  • Your students will develop a secure and connected understanding of the maths they are learning
  • Your students will report increased confidence in using maths
  • You will develop classroom practices aligned with the principles of teaching for mastery, as applied to the post-16 GCSE/FSQ sector
  • You will, over time, become part of the Maths Hubs Local Leader of Maths Education (LLME) community

Programme Structure

This programme includes:

  • A two-year professional development programme
  • An initial training year focused on developing your own teaching for mastery practice
  • A second year and beyond, where you support others to develop their practice
  • Opportunities to develop highly effective approaches to teaching GCSE Maths resit and Functional Skills

Who should attend

  • Practitioners of post-16 GCSE Maths resit and/or Functional Skills Maths
  • Participants must be currently teaching students aged 16–19 in a post-16 setting under the Condition of Funding policy
  • Participants should have at least two years’ experience teaching post-16 GCSE/FSQ maths
  • Participants should have the capacity to lead change within their own institution
  • Participants may be based in FE colleges, sixth form colleges, or other post-16 settings
