Reception teachers – developing a specialist knowledge in mathematics

This one-year programme to support practitioners to develop their specialist knowledge to ensure that Reception pupils have the best start in life.

 

What will you learn?

Explore learning in number, shape, space and pattern through the development of the following skills:

  • oracy (including the development of mathematical language)

  • spatial reasoning

  • executive function.


Programme Structure

This one-year programme includes five days of professional learning:

  • Four days of locally led professional development 

  • One day equivalent of online learning modules

Between sessions, participants apply learning in the classroom, reflect on practice, and observe the impact on pupils.

  • Reception teachers

  • Reception teaching assistants

  • Schools developing Teaching for Mastery in EYFS

Attending as a teacher and teaching assistant pair is recommended.
