There are two pathways for this Work Group: Number and Spatial Reasoning. During 2025-2026, the Number pathway will be the focus and participants will continue on to the Spatial Reasoning pathway during 2026-2027.
Explore and increase use of a variety of pedagogic approaches aligned with teaching for mastery.
Build confidence in planning for progression in maths.
Enhance maths subject knowledge, focusing on key concepts, representations, and language (e.g., additive reasoning, multiplicative reasoning, spatial reasoning).
Identify common misconceptions and strategies to address them for concept mastery.
Identify and plan pedagogical approaches that enhance teaching and learning in maths.
Develop understanding of key principles and approaches related to teaching for mastery.
Primary teachers
Participants will attend four days of sessions over one academic year.
Structured conversations will focus on maths, pedagogy, misconceptions, and transferring approaches to classrooms.
Between sessions, participants contribute to an online community, complete school-based tasks, and share observations with peers.
