  • Teaching for Mastery Toolkit Work Groups

    This programme supports schools to deepen and embed teaching for mastery, strengthening collaboration and developing consistent approaches across departments.

     

    What will you learn?

    You will:

    • Strengthen students’ understanding, reasoning and fluency
    • Deepen your understanding of teaching for mastery and how to embed it consistently
    • Improve collaborative approaches to planning, teaching and curriculum development
    • Build a culture of sustained professional learning through collaboration
    • Choose a focus area aligned with your department’s priorities, supported by appropriate resources
    • Develop collaborative planning and observation within maths departments
    • Work in a small group of local schools led by an experienced Mastery Specialist
    • Engage in joint lesson planning to design effective, mastery-based lessons
    • Take part in lesson observations to support reflection and improvement
    • Participate in professional dialogue to refine teaching approaches
    • Develop understanding of secondary Teaching for Mastery, including for those with limited prior experience
    • Engage with opportunities to deepen understanding and connect with the Maths Hubs network

    Programme Structure

    This programme includes:

    • Participation in a small group of local schools
    • Support from an experienced Mastery Specialist
    • Collaborative planning, lesson observation and professional discussion
    • Focus on a chosen priority area within the department

    Who should attend

    • Schools who have previously participated in a Secondary Teaching for Mastery Work Group or have had a Mastery Specialist in their department
    • Each school should nominate two teachers to take part
    • Participants should be well-placed to lead change within the department
